A San Francisco inauguration has resolved one of the drawbacks with a whole sle of car-sharing services—though you'll have to cope with two wheels instead of four.
Scoot Networks rents electric scooters by the hour and lets their riders drive away them point to point around San Francisco. That means they don't have got to be returned to the same place you picked them up, which is the case with many car-sharing services.
Its fleet has grown to 250 scooters, from 50 six months past.
Riders reserve scooters using a smartphone app available for iOS. There's no standalone Android app, but riders can use the Scud Networks website. In one case reserved, riders use their smartphones to starting signal the scooters up.
"Instead of using keys we use your smartphone, which is always in your pocket," said Sophie Lubin, a spokeswoman Dart Networks.
First time riders must complete a training session with a coach before being cleared to signboard out scooters.
